BighornThe Bad Water Railway (AAR reporting marks BWR) started out as the Bad Water Line, owned by Bonneville Transloaders, Inc. out of Riverton, Wyoming. It was established in 1995 after BTI bought the rail line abandoned by the Chicago & Northwestern railroad. In May 2002 it was bought by Bighorn Divide and Wyoming Railroad Inc. (BDW), a noncarrier. The line runs from Shoshoni to Bonneville, BNSF Jct. mile post 304.0, on the Casper Sub.

On April 17th, 2002, Mr. Marvin Leonhardt, Chief Financial Officer of Bighorn Divide and Wyoming Railroad, Inc. advised the US Railroad Retirement Board that the BWR has change it's name to BDW, LLC, which is now a real estate holding company for BDW and is no longer involved in railroad operations as of June 1, 2002. Effective with the close of business on May 31, 2002, the BWR ceased being an employer covered under the Railroad Retirement Act and Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act.[1]
